What it actually feels like
There are two Champagne days. The famous houses with their grand façades and their global brands, and the family growers — récoltants-manipulants — who actually farm the chalk. We do both, in that order.
The morning is at the grower: a vineyard walk, a cellar tour, a three-cuvée tasting, and a real conversation with people who make wine from grapes they planted themselves. Lunch in central Reims, in front of the Gothic cathedral where twenty-five kings of France were crowned.
The afternoon is on the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay — the most expensive kilometre of land in France, with billions of bottles ageing in chalk cellars beneath your feet. A Grand Maison private cellar tour and tasting closes the day. Hotel drop-off by six.
